This stunning and very early delivery 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster is the very first of only a few 300SL Roadsters to wear DB543 “Strawberry Red Metallic” paint. It is a completely matching-numbers example and retains all its original tags and stampings. The Lieferschien (factory build record) shows it was ordered new with English Instruments and Sealed Beam headlights, as well as a 3:89:1 rear axle ratio. The DB543 Strawberry Metallic Red paint was complimented by a light gray leather interior and a light gray soft top. During restoration the then owner opted for a parchment interior and soft top.
This Roadsters history is known by the Gull Wing Group back to new. It was owned by Mr. W. Stoff in New York, NY in 1957 then sold with 2,000 miles on the odometer to Mr. Parker of Greenwich, CT. The Parker family kept this car until 2004. It then ended up in the hands of a collector of Charlotte, NC who commissioned Rudi & Company (Rudi Koniczek) of Victoria, BC, Canada to do a full restoration. Photographs from that restoration show the car was in good condition when it arrived at the shop. The restoration took from 2004 until 2007. We believe Mullin kept the car until around 2010 when he sold it via the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre to the most recent owner noted collector from Longview, TX.
The car currently shows 6,195 miles, of which only 1,134 miles have been added since restoration (650 by us). It is accompanied by restoration photos, a tool kit, jack, matching fitted luggage, manuals, pouch, and copy of the data card.
Price in USD unless otherwise stated. Price does not include taxes for Canadian residents.
