The original Bentley Arnage released in the mid 1990s was powered by a 4.5 litre turbocharged BMW derived V8. After the Rolls Royce/Bentley Group was sold off in 1998, Rolls Royce was bought by BMW, and Bentley by the VW Audi group. The idea of a rival engine in their flagship luxury car did not sit well with VW so in 1998 the Arnage was re-engineered with the dated but functional Rolls Royce V8 engine first used in the late 1950’s and designated the ‘Red label’.
The new Red Label V8 is fitted with a Cosworth engineered Turbo set up this 6.75 litre engine developing around 400BHP. This was enough to haul this 2 ¼ tonne luxury limousine up to 60mph in less than 6 seconds from rest.
With subtle differences to styling giving increased legroom, electronic self-levelling suspension and brakes uprated for the increased weight, the car became a firm favourite with Bentley fans.
By the time production ceased in 2003, just 2273 examples of this fine car had been sold.
