2001 BMW Z8 Roadster

The BMW Z8 has not lost any appeal over the past twenty years. Designed by Henrik Fisker (later designed Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage) and overseen by Chris Bangle (Chief of Design for BMW, Rolls and MINI). It was suppose to reference BMW’s most famous roadster from the 1950s, the “507” and it did this with its minimalistic design and powerful V8 under the hood. It is a fantastic sounding car to drive and never wants for more under acceleration. The Z8 is as exciting to drive as it looks, and is has aged incredibly well, securing itself a place as a “young classic” car. A nearly identical Z8 was featured in the 1999 Bond film, “The World is Not Enough”.

The Z8 has an all aluminum chassis and body and uses a 4.9 L (4941 cc) 32-valve V8, that developed 400 hp (300 kW) and 500 N·m (370 ft·lbf) torque. This engine, known internally as the S62, was built by the BMW Motorsport subsidiary and was shared with the E39 M5. The engine was located behind the front axle in order to provide the car with 50/50 weight distribution. The factory claimed a 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) time of 4.7 seconds; Motor Trend magazine achieved 0–96 km/h (0–60 mph) in 4.2 seconds. Road and Track measured the car’s lateral grip at .92. Car and Driver magazine also tested the car and found that it outperformed the contemporary benchmark Ferrari 360 Modena in three important performance categories: acceleration, handling, and braking. As with most BMW products, its top speed was electronically limited to 155.4 mph (250 km/h); the car’s maximum top speed with an unlocked chip was 170 mph (270 km/h).

Our 2001 model year Z8 was sold new in Concord, California on January 19th 2001 and remained in the Bay Area until 2006 when it was imported to Vancouver, BC with 20,200 km on the odometer. It has travelled just over 10,000 km in the past thirteen years and has always been treated like a future collector car. Paint appears to be completely original, there are no claims or signs of any accidents in the history of this Z8. We just completed a major belt service, oil change, and installed four new Bridgestone Potenza RE050A run-flat tires. It comes complete with owners manual, tools, first aid kit, wind deflector, hardtop, soft top, tonneau cover, and car covers and is ready for its next caretaker.
