The Ferrari 458 Italia was a bold model update for the Italian car maker. Once again Ferrari collaborated with Pininfarina on the 458’s design. F1 legend Michael Schumacher aided in the design of the interior. This was the first time that Ferrari offered a V8 with direct fuel injection in their mid engine car. The Italia was also the first time Ferrari deleted a traditional manual transmission. Instead, a Getrag 7 speed dual clutch transmission provides full automatic driving or manual shifting through the steering column mounted paddle shifters.
The Italia’s name “458” helps us identify the cars engine – a 4.5 liter V8 that generates a screaming 562hp at 9,000rpm! 398 ftlb of torque compliments the impressive hp rating and delivers 80% of which at just 3,250rpm. The sound of the flat plane crank, naturally aspirated 90° V8 is one you will never mistake nor forget. There is no “overselling” on this particular attribute of the 458. It is distinctly Ferrari, and one of the major reasons why anyone would buy one.
