Chassis 198.042.10-002872

This stunning 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster with both factory hardtop and black soft-top is a completely matching-numbers example. The Lieferschien (factory build record) shows some very interesting factory options including a two-tone paint scheme in DB 050 White with a DB 040 Black hardtop. The interior was similarly special ordered in bright red (1088) leather with white piping around the edges of the seats. Further options include: 55318/1 Hardtop; 10013-198 USA Specification; 10152/1 (3:89 rear axle ratio); 55154/4 & 55151/1 Becker Mexico with Reims Shortwave Adapter I; 10280/1 five low pressure six-ply woven fabric whitewall tires.

We do not know who the first owner of this 300SL was with any certainty, but it was likely a California resident as the car is documented as being in Monterey, CA by 1963 with the second owner. The third owner was a resident of Spokane, Washington who had the car serviced at Beaudry Motors, and the four and most recent owner, since 1971, is a resident of Tacoma, WA (and Eugene, OR).

This Roadster shows extremely well, having benefitted from a full nut and bolt restoration, completed earlier this year. Painted the iconic Mercedes-Benz DB 180 Silver Grey Metallic, with black DB 040 hardtop, and a red leather interior. All mechanical and electrical restoration work was performed by long-time Gull Wing Group member (and GW owner), Siggy Linke. Linke also oversaw the body/paintwork at a Marysville, WA specialty body and paint shop. The interior was trimmed and installed by marque expert, Jon Cumpton.

The car is accompanied by a complete binder with all restoration records and receipts, factory document pouch, books, warranty cards for the radio, service booklet, dealer directories, jack, tire iron, tool kit and the original factory wooden hardtop shipping crate (ultra rare).
