While the first 'S Class' model rolled off the production line in 1972, the DNA and ethos behind it started with the 300 SEL.
As royalty and government officials internationally were being driven in their iconic 600 Grosser limousines, Mercedes decided to take the same 6.3L V8 motor and drop it into their big luxury sedan the 'SE' creating their first super sedan.
With performance that matched the Porsche 911 of the time, and an interior quality until then unheard of in the automotive world, the 300SEL was received by shock and awe. With 300hp and 434 lbs-ft in a 4 door sedan, this was truly a pioneer paving the way for 50 years of dominance in the luxury car industry.
This particular car was delivered February 16th, 1970 as a Canadian car.
Original ownership was 1970 - mid 1980s which was then sold to a restoration shop in Calgary whom completed their full restoration of the vehicle in 1999 with 79, 521 miles on the clock.
From 1999 to 2019 this car had one owner having work done at Rudi & Co. (now Coachwerks restoration) on Vancouver Island.
